Time After Time

In 2012 San Anselmo resident Gregg Olsson created this intriguing series of images of San Anselmo that merge historical and current-day photographs. Olsson says that one of the inspirations for his work was the 1970 novel Time and Again by Jack Finney. In the novel, a man travels back to the 1880s in New York using the threads that connect past and present—specifically the architecture that survived the years and still surrounds him in the 20th century. With San Anselmo’s well-documented history and numerous architectural threads that survive to this day, Olsson was able to create images that allow us to step back in time and see the town as it was and some of the ghosts of its past.
