Prior to his death, William Barber sold a portion of his land at the northwest corner, west of the creek, to George Worn and Annie S. E. Worn’s daughter Annie. Annie had married Donald E. Perry in 1899 and there they built a home.
After William Barber’s death, Elizabeth began to subdivide and sell much of the land. In 1901, 5.6 acres just south of El Camino Bueno were sold to Louis A. Ghirardelli of San Francisco; in May 1905 Elizabeth deeded 6.1 acres at “Rocky Point” south of the Ghirardelli land to Alice Barber, and 5.7 acres at the end of Alta Vista to Mary Barber; in June 1905 Elizabeth deeded 61.5 acres, including the Barber home, to Emory and Kate Winship of San Francisco for $76,000. The Winships had leased the house during the summer of 1904 and so enjoyed their stay that they purchased the property intending to keep it for their country home. The real estate transfer was described at the time as the largest ever known in Ross Valley.
The northern most portion of Mrs. Barber’s land was subdivided in 1904 into twenty-one lots which were delineated on Map No. 1 and Map No. 2 of the “Lands of Mrs. William Barber” and filed with the Marin County Recorder’s Office. These lots and the 5.7 acres deeded to Mary Barber form today’s Barber Tract and are included in the boundaries of the Town of San Anselmo.
